Public Procurement VIDEOS
Public procurement is the process by which our public institutions purchase goods, public works and services across the European Union (EU). Procurement contracts above a certain threshold are governed by the EU Public Directives to ensure the transparency of the procedures. Notices of such contracts must be published on the European Tenders Electronic Daily (TED) portal. The data generated by these contracts is of great value. The Public Procurement Data Space (PPDS), expected to be launched in 2023, intends to gather an impressive amount of data from European and national platforms. This video from Eurostat dives into the world of geographical categorisations and classifications. Meet Oliver Müller, who will explain the principles behind NUTS, the Nomenclature of Territorial Units for Statistics, which is the basic classification for regional data in the EU. He will also introduce the concept of territorial typologies used for classifying territories at either regional or local level. EU decentralised Agencies and Joint Undertakings (JUs) publish calls for tender for the supply of goods, services and works. Interested suppliers can take part in these procedures by submitting an offer or to respond to a call for expressions of interest to be preselected as potential candidates for restricted invitations to tender. This e-presentation discusses the main strands of the European Commission’s Public Procurement Package adopted on 3 October 2017. It explains the Commission’s priorities in the field of public procurement and their underlying rationale. Gill Joy introduces the European Single Procurement Document (ESPD) and advises on how businesses can best fulfil it and improve their bidding opportunities for public sector contracts.
